Accommodation In Vanuatu

There is a range of accommodation for school and adult groups.

These include Pacific Lagoon Apartments - four people per 2-bedroom apartment - no sharing beds with double bed in one bedroom, two singles in the second bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge room). This is a very comfortable self-contained 'home away from home' option located on Erakor Lagoon. There's swimming and kayaking right on the doorstep, it's just 5 minutes from town, a walk along the lagoon to the swimming pool at Le Lagon Resort and five minutes across the lagoon by ferry or kayak to Erakor Island Resort.

Another accommodation option is French owned and managed Formule Holiday Hotel (recently renamed Vanuatu Holiday Hotel). This is motel-style accommodation, is a short walk to town for French classes and to nearby supermarket and restaurants. The accommodation is comfortable with air-conditioned rooms, swimming pool and a communal breakfast farea. There are other options to suit different requirements including the Budget Traveller's Motel, Moorings Hotel, Coconut Palms Resort and the Kaiviti Motel.

For adult French study groups, we recommend the French owned and managed Fatumaru Lodge. Fatumaru is also walk to town, air-conditioned, self-contained, satellite TV with swimming pool and Jacuzzi located on the water at Fatumaru Bay. For those wanting an adults only environment, Sunset Bungalows is a five minutes by bus to town, air-conditioned, satellite TV, mini-bar, swimming pool and restaurant. All accommodation has lagoon frontage. Lagoon Beach Resort Apartments offers excellent value for families (if school groups travel for the first week of holidays, sometimes parents like to combine a holiday and meet up with their children for a second week).

For those who choose the option of extending the itinerary to include Mt Yasur, the John Frum Cargo Cult and traditional village life on the island of Tanna, accommodation is at Friendly Bungalows on Sulphur Bay. These are rustic thatched huts but are clean and comfy with a touch of Robinson Crusoe. The bungalows are near the volcano, some have en suites and, for school groups, the place is 'theirs' (no other bookings will be taken).

The ni-Vanuatu managers, Jessel and Mary, will give a friendly welcome; Jessel will meet groups at the airport and Mary is a fantastic cook. Other staff at Friendly speak French and those on French study tours can visit a small village French school as well as the volcano. The volcano safaris take you to the rim before dusk so you can enjoy the fireworks by day and night.
